Lions are one of the most powerful and fearful animals of the world. These animals are known as the king of the animal kingdom, and belong to the family of cats. Looking at their powerful personality and fierce nature, these magnificent creatures make us all curious about their lifestyle and what they eat. Carnivores are animals which feed on meat. Animals are basically divided into three types depending upon the food they eat in order to stay alive. These three types are:

Herbivore

Herbivores are the animals which feed on herbs or plants. These animals eat only the greens. Examples of herbivores are sheep, goats, elephants, giraffes, deer, rabbits, cows, horses, and pandas.

Carnivores

Carnivores are animals which eat only the meat and meat products. Such animals prey on other animals to get their food. Examples of carnivores include Leopard, Hyena, Polar Bear, Lion, Wolf, Cheetah, Giant Panda, and Felidae etc.

Omnivores

Omnivores feed on both plants and animals. One best example of omnivores are humans. Some other examples include bears, birds, dogs, raccoons, foxes, and some insects etc.

How do lions eat their prey?

Lions grasp their prey first, using their long canine teeth. Their teeth which you can see at the front are the short incisors which help give them grip while holding their prey, and the long and sharp teeth at the sides break down the food into pieces. This helps the lions eat their food even without chewing their prey.

Lions eat a lot of animals as their favorite food is meat and only meat. Some of the animals lions are found eating a lot include Zebras, Young Elephants, Rhinos, Hippos, Warthogs, Antelopes, Buffaloes, Crocodiles, Giraffes, Birds, Hares, Turtles, Mice, Lizards and Wild hogs etc.
